Margin is built so that almost nothing about you leaves your device. This policy explains exactly what that means.
Your reading position, highlights, notes, reading plans, and settings are stored on your device (and, if you enable it, in your own private iCloud account through Apple's CloudKit). There is no Margin account, and we do not have a server that holds your personal reading data. We cannot see your highlights, your notes, or what you read.
If you choose to use the AI features (Find Passages and Ask), the question you type — and, for Ask, the chapter you have open — is sent through our server to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response. We do not attach your name or an account to these requests; a random per-install identifier is used only to prevent abuse. We do not store the content of your questions. If you never use the AI features, nothing is ever sent.
We do not show ads. We do not use trackers. We do not sell or share data. We do not require an account. We do not collect analytics that identify you.
Margin is a general-audience app and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
